Through
continual development of design, materials and methods
of construction, IG is able to maintain its market -
leading position as the UK’s foremost supplier
of high performance doors. When you specify or buy an
IG door, you invest in a range of built-in benefits:
CONSTRUCTION
Whether you choose a steel or glass reinforced polymer
door, you get the performance to ensure long, trouble-free
life. IG Original, Steel Woodgrain and Glass Reinforced
Polymer doors are engineered to be dimensionally stable,
putting an end to winter expansion and summer contraction.
They will not warp, bow, crack or swell thanks to their
method of construction, which also ensures minimal maintenance
requirements.
Original and Steel Woodgrain doors are formed from
two 24 gauge steel surfaces permanently bonded to a
rigid polyurethane core and glued around timber stiles.
The steel surfaces are galvanised both sides and factory
primed as standard to ensure long-term protection against
corrosion. For minimal environmental impact, the polyurethane
core is CFC and HCFC free and is zero rated for ozone
depletion potential. To eliminate knots and to increase
strength and stability, timber stiles are finger jointed.
Glass Reinforced Polymer doors are constructed in
exactly the same way with glass reinforced polymer skins
replacing the steel surfaces. Tough enough to resist
dents and to minimise the effect of scratches, glass
reinforced polymer is completely resistant to all that
the weather can throw at it.
THERMAL PERFORMANCE
With their high performance insulating cores, IG doors
have outstanding thermal performance. With a U value
through the door of 0.55W/m2K,IG doors have up to
four times the thermal insulation of timber doors.
In addition, the doors’ construction allows most
types of hinge to be used without affecting the thermal
break. This means that with no inner-to-outer skin contact
the thermal barrier remains intact, preventing condensation
forming on the internal face of the door.
DRAUGHT PROOFING
To keep out the wind and the rain, the head and jambs
of frames are fitted with high quality, compression
weatherstrip. In addition, frames can be fitted with
a unique, patented adjustable sill made from high quality
aluminium and PVC extrusions or with a Stormguard Trimline
sill. Weather sealing is further enhanced by the generous
18mm doorstop, which also helps to improve security.
The result is draught proofing designed to withstand
the extremes of the British climate.
GLAZING
In order to provide the maximum opportunity for creating
individual entrances, IG offer a very wide range of
glazing options all conforming to BS 6206 and BS 5713.
Standard sealed double-glazed units have 4mm toughened
or 6mm annealed clear or obscure glass in a wide choice
of designs.
The Touch of Elegance range combines timeless design
with the finest quality, whilst the Touch of Colour
range offers the attractiveness of traditional leaded
glass in a modern form. The Touch of Silk series features
a sand etched design, whilst a Georgian bar is the feature
of the Touch of Brass range. The Touch of Privacy design
offers a simple, convenient means of controlling light
and privacy. (See IG

DECORATION
IG Original doors are primed with a highly weather-resistant
‘baked-on’ acrylic paint ready for hand
or spray finishing with good quality exterior paint.
IG Steel Woodgrain doors can
be supplied with a factory-applied timber effect finish
in Mahogany, Walnut or Oak, or paint finish in red,
blue, green or white. IG Steel Woodgrain doors are supplied
primed as standard ready for on-site finishing.
IG Glass Reinforced Polymer doors
can be supplied finished in Oak, Walnut or Mahogany
stain, or painted red, blue, green or white. IG Glass
Reinforced Polymer doors are supplied primed as standard
ready for on-site finishing.
PRE-HUNG UNITS
Factory assembled pre-hung units ensure that door and
frame are perfectly matched and that all seals are completely
effective. With no locks to cut on site, pre-hung units
reduce on site labour costs. In addition, the loose
pin hinges allows doors to be quickly and easily removed
and stored safely during the construction process.
HINGES
All IG doors are fitted with high performance hinges
that meet the requirements of BSEN 1935. With security
interlocking in the closed position to provide resistance
to physical attack, the hinges have been subjected to
exhaustive testing. Fitted to a 40 kg door, they have
successfully survived 200,000 operations and, with yellow
zinc plating for maximum corrosion resistance, have
withstood a 5% salt spray for 96 hours, ensuring that
IG specification provides good security as well as long-term
durability.
FRAMES
Frames are available in softwood, hardwood or PVCu.
For maximum protection, softwood frames are Vac-Vac
treated - a double vacuum process that ensures preservative
is drawn deeply into the timber. Frames are then finished
with a dual-purpose yellow primer ready for staining
or painting on site. Manufactured at IG’s Cwmbran
facility, frames can be readily customised to particular
requirements. Sills are available in hardwood or synthetic
material to choice.
BUILDING REGULATIONS -
PART M
In order to comply with Part M of the Building Regulations,
IG offers a special sill (see Part
M Frames) and doors 845mm wide to give a clear minimum
opening of 775mm (and 914mm wide to give a clear minimum
opening of 850mm for local authority and housing association
projects).
SECURED BY DESIGN
IG offer a range of Secured by Design doors specially
designed to meet the Police Preferred Specification
detailed under the scheme. These doors have been successfully
tested at a UKAS accredited test laboratory for compliance
with PAS 23 and PAS 24. (See Secured
by Design Doors)
SERVICE
Based in Cwmbran, IG is able to service the UK through
networks of technical sales representatives and maintenance
engineers. Technical representatives are able to call
upon the company’s technical advisory department
who draw upon practical experience and expertise accumulated
since 1979.
