MEETING
PART M OF THE BUILDING REGULATIONS
After consultation
with housebuilders, IG have extended the
range of high performance doors to include
a new door system that provides both a new
door size and amended adjustable threshold.
These enable full compliance with the revised
Regulations in a way that meets housebuilders
needs for an aesthetically acceptable solution
with minimal impact on building methods.
Part
M - the Requirements
Threshold - the Regulations intend that
each dwelling is to have a level threshold
to one entrance. In detail this is defined
as:
 |
There shall
be no vertical change of threshold
height of more than 15mm |
|
|
 |
Any vertical
change of height greater than 5mm
must be rounded or chamfered |
|
|
 |
The slope
of the sill shall be no greater than
15°
Door Width
- the Regulations intend that the
entrance door shall be wide enough
to allow wheelchair access. This is
defined as: |
|
|
 |
There shall
be a clear opening width of at least
775mm |
Housebuilders’
Requirements
Research provided a clear indication that
in meeting the new Regulations housebuilders
wanted the height from floor to lintel to
remain the same (i.e. 2100mm). Given the
options of either increasing the head sections
of
|
|
frames
or increasing the height of doors, there
was again a very clear preference for increasing
the height of the doors. A wider door is
available to meet Housing Corporation Standards
where required.
Please contact IG
for details.
The
IG DOORS Solution
Designed to provide a cost-effective and
aesthetically acceptable method of meeting
Part M, the new IG door system comprises
a door 845mm wide by 2000mm high within
a frame with specially adapted sill section.
The IG door system (see diagram)
incorporates the patented IG adjustable
threshold for the prevention of draughts
and water penetration.
The IG door system
provides essential benefits:
 |
Practical,
cost effective solution to Part M |
|
|
 |
Avoids the
need to cut blockwork |
|
|
 |
Avoids the
need for unsightly frame extension
at door head |
|
|
 |
Easy to install
on site |
Keep
It Simple
To avoid site complications, IG Part M door
systems should be used for both front and
rear entrances.
