CRIME
REDUCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Secured By Design is the UK police flagship
initiative supporting the principles of designing out
crime. Supported and managed by the Association of Chief
Police Officers, the initiative has already achieved
significant successes as demonstrated by research by
Huddersfield University. This shows that residents living
in SBD developments experience between 54% and 67% less
crime.
All local authorities have a responsibility under Section
17 of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998 to take account
of community safety and crime reduction in all aspect
of their duties.
SECURED BY DESIGN LICENSED
PRODUCTS
Essential to the Secured
By Design scheme are Licensed Products which are successfully
tested to meet the relevant Police Preferred Specifications.
The Specifications for doors are PAS 23-1: 1999, which
is a performance standard that certifies that a door
set is fit for purpose; and PAS 24-1: 1999 which covers
enhanced security performance requirements for door
assemblies. This is an attack test standard that certifies
that a door, frame lock and hardware set has withstood
a series of physical tests based on common methods of
burglary using defined sets of tools and attack time.
THE IG RANGE
IG offer a range of Original, Steel Woodgrain
and Glass Reinforced Polymer doors that have been successfully
tested to be fully compliant with PAS 23 and PAS 24
and have Police Preferred Specification licences.
Multi-point locks are fitted to meet the Police Preferred
Specification, and locks and hinges are protected by
additional reinforcement. Lock options include a choice
of key operation internally and externally, or thumbturn
internally and key externally dependent on glazing style
and door type
Multi-point locks can be supplied to incorporate night
latching with split spindles (the main entrance must
have split spindles for night latching – secondary
doors have solid spindles). Please specify which is
the main entrance when ordering.
Hardwood frames, either four-sided or goal post depending
on customer’s requirements, are standard.
